About

Yana Ross is a Lithuanian-American director based in Vilnius. She works across Europe, most often in Germany, Switzerland, Scandinavia and Iceland, and builds her productions through long, close work with the ensemble.
She is known for adapting radical texts and classics to the present, grounding them in cities where they are played and in the lives of the actors. In 2008 she became the first woman to direct on the main stage of the Volksbühne in Berlin. She is now Head of the Artistic Council at the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre until 2030, and from 2019 to 2024 was part of artistic leadership of Schauspielhaus Zürich. Her work toured to the Venice Biennale, the Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles and the Salzburg Festival.
She returns often to David Foster Wallace and Anton Chekhov, and stages strong female voices, among them Maja Zade, Kata Wéber, Leïla Slimani and Virginie Despentes.
